I am wanting to paint my old kitchen cabinets. I heard that after I clean and sand them to use an oil based primer and then oil based paint, but someone else just told me to use water based primer with latex paint. What will seal off from stains, mold and mildew best. Also, after they are painted, do I need to put any kind of sealer on them.
Thanks

I just finished that project myself. I did this one other time and they both turned out great. You will need to use an oil based primer like Zinsser or other and then use a melamine paint which also is oil based and that's it. The melamine will give you a harder more durable finish than latex.

good luck..

Thanks, I thought oil based was the way to go, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks, that kitchen looks much better, but what exactly did they do to it?

I don't know. They just painted over with rescue paint I guess.

Am I supposed to paint the inside of the cabinet doors? I would think so because they won't match, but I read not to.
