Hi -

I've just moved into a new house that is "pre-wired" for home entertainment with coaxial cable connections in each room of the house that are controlled from a box in the attic.

The previous owner used cable tv and a cable modem.

I would like to be able to use a cable modem (DSL is not an option) and direct tv.

Is this possible? What elements are required in the system to ensure that both feeds can run through the wires without interference? I will use a professional installer, but want to make sure I know what questions to ask

Thanks

Shouldn't be any problem. Just make sure the installer doesn't cut any of the cable coax. My brother-in-law moved into a house where the sat installer cut the cable coax.

The installer will run new cable for the satellite. They will not use the existing coax cable.

BTW - you don't mention a DVR, but have the installer run two leads to the main tv room. I heartily recommend Tivo or other DVR. We have it for a little over a year and are hooked. Pausing live TV is great if you have kids (for you, not the kids)!

Bob,
Believe me, if RG6 is pre-wired throughout the house, the Sat Guy will use it.
I do ALL the time !!! I even used 18 yr old RG6 from my old C-band dish for my new Dish HDTV system - NO problem.

(only RG59 would have to be replaced from dish to sat receiever. - won't carry frequencies)

Midvale wants to run cable internet and Sat TV. Can you run both on
the same ciruit?

Midvale, make sure to get in writing from the cable company that they
acknowledge you are only using them for internet.
