OK, home repairs are definitely NOT my thing. We're having our countertops replaced, and replacing the sink with it. I'm ordering a standard SS double bowl sink online (Kohler) and know I need to get the drain parts that attach to the holes in the sink. My question is - do these parts have to be Kohler too, or are these standard parts that we can pick up locally (and cheaper)? Looks like the drain parts recommended by Kohler for this sink run about $20 each. Thanks for the help!

Just measure the drain holes and buy anything you like that fits. It doesn't have to be the same brand. Just make sure that you seal the area under the drain flange really well with plumbers putty.

I agree that they do not have to be Kohler. On the other hand, don't go cheap or you will regret it later when you are changing them or the wife is complaining they don't seal. I prefer "Spin and Grin" drain baskets and strainers. A little twist and the basket locks in and holds the water in the sink. Good luck.

Thank you both! I have the "spin & grin" now and it's lasted 20 years with no complaints (from ME, the wife!), so I guess we'll go with that. Good to know I don't have to buy the expensive name brand.
