I am currently finishing my basement and want to install wood laminate flooring around the bar area. It is not a very big area, about 3 x 8 in front of the bar and about the same behind. The rest of the basement will be carpeting.

My question, is how to install. I have seen several different kinds of wood laminate floors at HD and Lowes. The floor is concrete with very old asbestos tiles. The floor is level. What kind of laminate floor can I use in this situation, and how would I do it?

You can buy any laminate flooring you want...there are so many different colours to choose from.

As for installation, the two most important things, IMHO, is to get a flooring with a good warranty of no less than 20-25 years. Second, you must install a vapour barrier under the foam since you will be installing on concrete. All stores that sell laminate flooring sell a 2 in 1 product which has the foam and vapour barrier as one.

Follow the manufacturers recommended installation instructions and it should work out fine.

I think that floating installation is good for concrete subfloors.. with regards to brands..Pergo is still the most trusted name but I can tell you from experience that xxxxxxxxxxxx. I'd look over this article which has helped me make some good flooring decisions: http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxx .
