Hey all! Site Noob here... happened across the site last evening, and thought it looked like a constructive site to be a part of.

Anyway, I'm a Self-Employed General Contractor, but am seriously considering moving into more of a specialized company offering service in tile, granite, marble & stone work of all kinds, if I decide not to just go into general remodeling.

Having said that, I have a garage floor tile job coming up in a few weeks. It's 1064 sq. ft. and will not be converted into part of the home interior, but rather just a tiled garage floor. I have alot of work and am experienced in tile, marble and granite work of all kinds, but this will be my first "Garage Floor".

The concrete floor is pretty much new, I think approx. 3 yrs. old and without cracks (thank god!). I plan on using a 16" x 16" porcelain tile with a heavy use / highest durability rating of 5. Having said that, I am going to have to use acid on the floor in the preparation of the slab, followed with a coat of thinset to adhear a fracture membrane. Followed by the obvious next layer of thinset for the porcelain and sealer.

I was curious if anyone has ever been a part of such a project and if the tile used was the non-skid line of tile or unglazed tile, etc.. I have pretty much made up my mind already on what i am going to use, but always like input from others if they have experienced such a job. The customer wants a lighter beige/tan color, but is flexible on what color i think is best for this particular project. Any suggestions here on color, sincethere will obviously be vehicles driving on and off of it. To me a lighter color seems like they'll be heading for quite a bit of maintenance on it to keep it clean and free of obvious scuff / tire marks, etc.. Prior thanks for any suggestions!

1st Has this concrete floor been sealed. If so ,you need to take a grinder to it to roughen it up.
2nd what kind of fractor membrane are you using.
3rd I'd use Mapei Keralastic thinset. You use a latex additve instead of using water when mixing it. More expensive, but a much better product for what your doing.
4th Your right on the color thing. It all depends on the home owner. I'd do suggest using epoxy grout.
Hope this helps.

what kinda of tiles can withstand jackstands, and floor jacks? i am still up in the air as to weather i should just epoxy coat my floor or maybe tile it instead, :)
