I pulled up my carpet up stiars and there is plywood on top of beautiful hardwood floors. now I am clueless on what to do they nailed the plywood pretty dam good should i just recarpet it. I am not a handy lady plus the space is about 28 by 16 if not bigger I pulled up the padding and the boards along the sides. Any advice would help thank you :coffee:

If this is a really old home, the hardwood strips are place directly over the joists, usually on 12" / 1' centers. No slats or subfloor. Ends don't always land on a joist. It relies on the T&G and the stagger of the boards for strength.

If the floor has been sanded down to its limit, it can be very weak and bust thru.

Plywood my have been place over it to add strength and cover holes, before the carpet was installed. :coffee:
