i have spilt vodka on the top of my table and it has gone like white and rings have appeared under the bowls i had on the table. ive tried everything but cant ghet rid of them, the varnish looks like it has come off in a few places. what can i do?

hmmmm, several lessons learned here. If vodka does to your tabletop what it did to your tabletop, imagine what it does to your liver.
Anyhow, you can try these, hopefully one of them will work.
1) Purchase a pack of 00 and 0000 (2 "aught" and 4 "aught") steel wool at the painting section at Lowes or similar. Use the 00 (more coarse) to polish the area, and the 0000 (fine) to further polish. Finish with a good wood paste wax, like MinWax Paste wax, following the instructions (do the whole table with the wax).
2) If this doesn't work, you can try scuff sanding with 220 sandpaper and recoating. Polyurethan or "Wipe on Poly" should work, but if you lay it heavy it may amber that area more than the rest of your table, so go light.
Note that if this is a fancy table or one that has a lot of sentimental value or something and you want it looking top notch, don't hesitate to call a refinisher, often times they can do wonders that we can't.
