I just removed a tub from my bathroom in preparation for a new one. I noticed that between the two layers of subfloor where the hole for the drain is that there was a thin paper lining the two. My house was built in 1928 so I am wondering if it contains asbestos. Or, is this just some form of vapor barrier.

The only way to know if you have a material that contains asbestos is to have it tested. If the material remains encapsulated and fibers are not disturbed and become airborne, you have no concerns.
