I would appreciate any tips or hints on building a microwave into the cabinets.

How much help do you actually need?
Do you have a microwave that is a "Built-in" or are you just trying to replicate the look of one? You need to leave some air space, say 1/2" around the microwave for venting purposes if it's just a regular microwave
