I am in the process of removing wallpaper and would like to know the best way to refinish the drywall (in my kitchen). Should I simply fill in the imperfections with joint compound or spackle? Should I sand by hand or with one of those pole sanders?

Second question: I have those white Luan-like cabinets. At the very top, I will be removing wallpaper above a piece of molding. Will I be able to paint this type of cabinet material? I'd like the top of the cabinets above the molding to match the walls.
