We have a Kenmore electric wall oven, model number 911.40495890. We came home to find it flashing F-7. The owners manual does not explain what that code means--just says call for service. We called Sears. They will send out a repair person, but will not tell us beforehand what F-7 means. Does anyone know what F-7 means? Is this something we can repair ourselves? Thanks!

Kenmore makes nothing. It seems you have a Roper wall oven. Look here (http://www.repairclinic.com/0078.asp#Roper2) for the F7 error. seems it is a replace the ERC[electronic range control]. There may be some self dianostic test you can do. Look in the manual or the schematics if you can find them. Unplug the oven and look in the control panel. May be wise to replace the temp sensor if you need to replace the ERC.

A permanent fix for this problem was developed by Charlie Popeck, a professional engineer. It involves inserting a piece of paper between two ribbon cables to eliminate the possibility of short circuit between the two cables. The 30 minute procedure is described (including photos) at the web site
