this floor is OLD and I want to know is there a way to clean ceramic tiles to brighten them up. I have tried and tried to clean the grout with numberous cleaners and tooth brush but to no avail but the floor looks dirty all the time . It seems to have little indents in t he tiles that catch the dirt and I cant get it clean -- Boy do I need help ... I dont want to have to remove the floor as it's in pretty good shape besides looking dirty

Try some TSP or a heavy duty tile cleaner. A more environmentally friendly way to go would be trying some Oxyclean. If that doesn't work go rent a hand held steam cleaner with a point and shoot wand and blast the crevices, then blot the tile with a sponge and clean water.
You can get a grout colorant that gets painted on the grout surface. It will change the grout to whatever color you want. A place that has the most selection is http://www.groutdye.com You can see if this is something you want to try. Colorants are available at many tile stores but I like this place because the product is easier to clean up after installation than most others and the pallatte of colors matches several major grout manufacturers so you can possibly find the color you have now.
