Has anyone ever heard of this type of portable heater?
A company took a full page ad in our local paper and said they have a unit, 1500 watts, that can heat up to 1000 square feet. It claims the unit uses about a dollar a day of electric.....
Anyone believe that?
docoflove,
First of all at 6 cents/kwh a 1500 watt heater would cost $2.16 for 24 hours of operation.
For it to cost $1.00/day at the above electrical rate, it can only run for half of the 24 hours to cost a dollar a day.
The question is, what is the heat loss of the 1000 sq ft. space?
If you only have to raise the temp of the room a couple of degrees above the outdoor temp then yes, it would work.
If you are in a cold climate likely no.
The idea behind infrared is that it heats you and not the room.
If you stand in front of the heater or are where the infrared radiates then you may feel some warmth but it will not raise the temp of the room if you need more than 1500 watts.

Thanks Greg for your reply.
I thought it was awful good sounding. They said I can let my electric heat set at 50 and this would do the job. If you sit in front of it which they forgot to tell me.
You saved me $370.00 and I owe you a big thanks......
