Hi. I am installing laminate (Kronoswiss) in the living room and hallway. After ripping up carpet and padding, the kitchen floor vinyl is installed over what looks like two layers of subflooring (OSB & Plywood). The bathroom vinyl is over one layer of OSB flooring and the entryway is tile over concrete backingboard.

The biggest height transition is to the kitchen (5/8" up from living room subfloor - prior to laminate install). Is this too much for any transition pieces? Do I need to lay another layer of subfloor in the living room and hallway where I will be doing laminate?

thanks for any help.

Well after researching a little more, I think the kitchen has two layers of underlayment (a vinyl sandwich). Should I take off the top one with vinyl (I am having a professional installer lay vinyl next week once I am done with the laminate) and then remove the next layer of vinyl and have the installer apply to the first layer of underlayment? This would make the transition height quite a bit smaller between laminate and vinyl.

Thanks-
(I should have just stuck with the carpet :o )

With a vinyl sandwich like that, I'm surprised the seams in the underlayment, were not telegraphing and showing in the vinyl surface.

Tear it all out and get back down to the original subfloor.
