I have a craftsmen key start mower with a 6.5 tecumseh motor that quit. It has no spark. I never use the key to start it. the battery is totally dead. Can anyone tell me if you need juice in the battery for spark. Is there any way to check the coil or the electrical components to find the problem? thank you.

If you can find the model # of the craftsman mower, u can probably get a parts break down. It could be that your key has to be in the run position for the engine run, the battery should not need charged if it has a recoil starter. If you can find the lead or kill wire that attatches at the coil disconnect it and check for spark. If you have spark with it disconnected, the coil is good and a short exists eslewhere in the wiring or a switch.
