Have a wooden kitchen floor that I stained a dark mahogany, and now I'm in trouble with my wife. The natural color of the wood is a light reddish and it's a soft wood. What's the easiest way to remove the mahogany stain? Should I bleach it? Sand it? It's only about a 5x5 area, but I better not replace it or cover it. I'm already in enough trouble! Thanks.

Stain can be removed with paint stripper.

There is also an aerosol "stain" stripper that works well, but its probably not advisable in the house w/out excellent ventilation.
