hello all,
I'm getting ready to break ground next week and have a question. The home is going to be a ranch with an attatched garage. Basement walls are going to be 9' high by 10" thick. I was wondering what the common practice is on how to attatch the poured garage walls. Is it normal to have a stepped foundation or should the top of the foundation wall for the garage be at the same hieght as the basement walls so the brick ledge continues....I think also don't they make the garage walls 8" thick to save on concrete? Thanks for any info,
Ron

I most commonly see stepped foundations, and have seen 6" wide foundations in garages.

If it is stepped, how do you continue the brick facing on the exterior of the garage? Or would the foundation walls be a few inches taller than 'grade', thus having a brickledge AND space to pour a garage floor??
