Hi everyone, new member here...just found this place.
I have an old (85 yr. old duplex) that i'm having totally redone, ghutted out, new plumbing , eletc, etc...
my Contractor is asking me to pick a central air unit now, and i'm not sure what to go with, Trane, york, frigidaire or Amana.
i always thought YORK was top brand but a friend of mine is telling me TRANE...tia,

The only ones Id say to go for. first Trane ,Rheem, lennox.
if you are doing the whole thing now Trane has a 10 year warranty Id go for. Also go to http://www.warmair.net and compare fuels for where you are now. If up north furnace 90 afue AC seer 14. Down south 80 afue on the furnace or heat pump and a 16 or better on the AC.

AFUE ==== Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency
Its the efficiency of the furnace oil gas or what ever.

Every time I see a "brand" question, my answer is alway the same.
Equipment = 5% Installation =95%
Have the "cheapest" equipment installed by the "best" installer & it will outlast & outperform the "best" equipment installed by a "cheap" installer.
In my own house 14 years ago I installed a Janitrol (Goodman) A/C. This brand is often considered to be "cheap" but other than keeping filters replaced & rinsing out the outdoor unit a couple of times per summer, I've done nothing to it. Should it crap out tomorrow, it owes me nothing.
