I read as many of the other posts I could but I don't think any are the same.

My unit was installed a year ago by a family freind not a company.

I woke up today to find it hot but I could hear the blower fan from the furnace so I figured the air had just kicked on. I have a programable thermostat.

So I waited never got cooler. Put my hand in front of the vents was blowing hot air.

I opened the window and the outside unit wasn't working. I went out and I could hear a buzzing noise so I figured the fan was junk. But I also noticed it was dirty so I cleaned everything and put it back together.

I turned the air back on the unit went click like it always does and the fan started. But still blowing hot air.
I had the freeon checked, its not freeon anymore.... But that was OK.
Can anyone help with that? No cool air.

Also I noticed when the unit was running right I would hear like a wooshing, trickling sound coming from the lines that ran from the unit outsided to the one in my furnace.. Never hear that on other peoples central air.
Anyone know anything about that?

I know its a long post sorry.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Nick

All safety precautions must be observed when working around high voltage, use your PPE and all moves must be slow/deliberate and carefully planned, if you do not feel comfortable checking live circuits do not do it, have a pro repair your unit. If you are up to it check for 240 volt at outside disconnect fuse box on both sides of the fuse or breaker, then if good check at contactor if 240 volts at contactor, then manually push in the contactor and see if your compressor and condensor fan come on and run, report back results....

Ok I have 240 at all locations.
I called the guy that installed it and he is going to put a hard start kit on.
Is this right?

Who knows until he looks at it. Could be the problem.

Just let you know that whatever he did it is running now.
However its louder then it was?
And that noise I hear by the tubbing in the house is still there. He said it is the liquid gas that its filled with.
I told him I never hear it in anyone elses AC and he just shrugged.

Ok, I have 1 more question then I will be out of your hair I hope.

Since hes worked on it the fan and compresser outside turns off and on when the thermostat is still calling for air.
Then it will turn back on a couple minutes later.

And I really high pitched squeel

It never did this before.
Any ideas of why?

Thanks
Nick

Could be undercharged, overcharged, not sure. What did he do to get it going??

You will be miles ahead if you get a true hvac tech out to go over it.

He came out and put a hard start kit on it. Fired right up.
But before he did that he hooked up some gauges to the lines that run into the house to see if the compresser was working.
When he un hooked them I noticed a big puff of the stuff thats inside. Lasted about 30 sec before he got the gauge all the way off.

The guy that works on it is a true HVAC tech. He is certified. I had to get a permit for it to be installed.
After he fixed it with the hard start kit he went on vacation.
So I need to know what could be wrong with it so I can check it over.

Most of the guys on this forum know what its like to have a wife that complains about the heat. lol

Just because he's certified don't make him a tech. Maybe I'm wrong but he should be able to give you answers to these questions and not shrug you off. He can't properly check the charge by just hooking up the gauges and checking the pressure. There are several other tempratures to take and some math to do to get to the right answer.
