I have a newer model kenmore dryer. it has an electrical start button, not the older mechanical ones. wehn I push the button to start the machine it will run only as long as the button is depressed. everything else about it is fine, it heats, the drum rotates, it will stop at the correct times(if you have been holding the button for the entire cycle). Any ideas what might cause this?

Welcome to the wonderful world of electronics on appliances. If you take the back panel off you'll probably see the start button is part of an entire circuit board. Instead of the good old days when you could just replace the start switch, the entire board needs replaced. I just replaced one on a GE with the same problem. Board was around $110.00. Dave
