My wife was cutting down some weeds next to our A/C and cut a thin gray wire halfway by accident. She severed one of the two small copper wires inside, which are red and white.

Once she did that, the unit turned off.

She woke me up and i went outside. I cut the power to the house just in case it was electric, and I got some tools, stripped a little sheathing to both wires and twisted them back together. Then I capped and taped the wires.

After cutting the power back on, and fiddling with the thermostat, the A/C fan has not come back on. I thought I twisted the wires pretty good.

This was about 30 minutes ago i think. Anyone know what I should do? Is this electric or data from thermostat, or is it something else?

the red is the 24v going to stat you might have to reprogram the stat look at book that came with tstat if you dont have it go on line and you will find one there try that frist if that dosnt work you might have shorted board in unit when both lines touched

You dont say what you have there?????? You can have a bad transformer now. A small fuse on a board burned out ??? Id say get a meter and start to see if and where you have or dont have 24 volts.

I don:t really have experience with this. I don:t have a voltimeter, but I can go buy one in a few minutes.

are you saying, get a voltimeter and then touch one of the wires to check if I:m getting 24 volts?

do I touch it with both voltimeter wires?
can I touch either wire when the power is on?

My digital thermostat is still reading the inside temperature of the house (it:s rising)

Do you think I need to cut A/C power for a length of time to reset it?

please give me more detailed info, I really could use it.

You turn the power back on and also inside if you did turn it off??

I dont: think I have a fan on the A/C, do you mean a fan on the furnace?

I never shut anything off except the main and A / C breaker and those are back on.

The meter has 2 wires so you have to put one on each of the small 24 V wires to see if you read 24V or one on each post of the transformer to see if it has 24V. Does the fan on the furnace run???????

if you can inside (furnace) don't run, then check for a low voltage fues and see if that got blown.. if no fuse, check for 24 volts.. If no 24 volts, then check the transformer.
