I have a whirlpool washing machine I got from my grandparents. It is almost 25 years old. Today it decided not to drain once it completed the wash, soak and agitate cycles. It continued to run with a load of clothes and a tub full of water. There was a faint odor of something burning. The clothes were removed and I pulled the washer away from the wall. I then pulled the drain hose out of the wall and put it in a bucket. The washer immediately began to drain. Once the machine was empty, I set the washer to operate on a short cycle to see if it would repeat the problem. It did. In fact it went from the short cycle directly to another cycle, although no addition water was added. The tub currently contains water and is unplugged. I intend to drain it manually again. THEN, I will await advice as what to do next. Thank you in advance for any assisitance.

If the spin cycle works.

I had the same problem with my Whirlpool Model LDA 6300 W0 which is about 25 years old. There is a wig wag system on the gear box next to the motor that has a shoe with a pin through it and the pin broke out of the shoe on mine. That did the fix and the part cost about $14.00 and 30 minutes to install. Now my belt has broken and I did a post to see if anybody knows the procedure to install a new belt!!! Hope this helps. Ed

The odor comes from the drive belt rubbing on the motor pulley, you may have to replace the belt if it's damaged. The cause is the dry bearing in the drain pump which has seized up the drain pump shaft. To fix the problem take the drain pump off, take it apart and lubricate the bearing with motor oil. Clean up the pump shaft, and lubricate the felt washer if it has one and reassemble.

Or just replace the pump and also the belt.. since the belt now has a bad spot on it and will most likely to come back and haunt you later.. here is direction,,,,
