My wife and I just had a new concrete driveway poured and are preparing now to seal. I bought Super Seal 30 from a local masonary business by the advice of the contractor who poured the driveway. I decided to seal it myself to save some money since it is a simple process.
I followed the directions on the can and tested about a 10x10 area on the sidewalk. Almost immediately, really dark spots appeared on the area were I applied the sealer. That was yesterday and today it may be a little lighter but it is still a dramatic difference from the untreated concrete. I called the contractor and he told me that it would go away in a couple of weeks but that's too much money with me still having doubts.
The concrete we have is almost white because we requested white sand instead of brown. If anyone has experienced this or could help me please repond ASAP. I just want to make sure before I continue with the rest of the sealing. I have not driven a car or anything else on the driveway until I seal it so it will not have black marks or oil stains. I don't know who else to ask--please help.
Thanks

How long did you let inbetween the concrete being poured and applying the sealer?

yes, it will be dark when applied and it will turn lighter over time. It not just this product but all sealer will do this.

It's been about two weeks but the sealer I have also has a curing agent in it-so they told me I need to go ahead and put it on.

Thanks BB, I just wanted to make sure before I applied the rest that I wasn't going to have a mess on my hands. I know it will change the color a little but I didn't like the color I was seeing. Today it's about the same as yesterday-How long should it take for the true color to come through?

The area I tested has not lightened any since I applied it. How long is a sufficient amount of time to know if it is going to do so---- before I apply it to the entire driveway? Thanks again for your help.

I couldn't find much info on this sealer, so I don't know if its to be used straight or diluted with a solvent like xylene.
The sealers I'm familiar with will darken the concrete. The dark spots you see is where more of the sealer was absorbed than the lighter areas. Its due to the mix not being uniform (no way it can be perfectly uniform) or you got a bit more sealer on those spots (puddled). Give it a second coat. Do the instructions mention a second coat? Give it a second coat.
If it still looks bad, you may want to invest in a colored sealer. Sherwin-Williams can do this.
