how do i know what size air conditioner to buy? we have a 4 room apartment with a total living area of apartment is 721 sqare feet and the height of the ceilings are 7feet 8 inches. we would like one air conditioner for the whole apartment if it is possible. thank you for your help. art

If you are refering to a window unit, they are very tough to size properly. Almost anything you get is going to cool the room in which you put it (maybe too much depending on size) but air distribution leaves a lot to be desired. Most people end up with a couple of smaller units for better temerature uniformity.

It kinda depends upon the space you are cooling/ type of unit you are buying/air distribution system/insulation in ceiling walls and floor/windows etc all have to be taken into consideration to properly size a unit, but other than that just get about a ton of AC for every 500 sg ft as a loose rule of thumb so a 1 1/2 ton should make you fairly cool. Note: 12,000 btus = 1 ton
