View Full Version : ceramic tile thresholds

I'm in the process of tiling my kitchen/breakfast area. This room is a step-up floor design. The step-up area has a wooden (oak) threshold which is 3/4" thick.
The floor is 3/4" thick plywood. The threshold strip is recessed in the 3/4" plywood floor. (Is this making any sense so far?) Removing the strip leaves a 3/4" x 3"
area which after installing tile builds it up to about 1 1/2". Should I build up the oak strip or try to find a tile threshold ?
The area is 72" long. Thanks for any input.

Well, you won't find a tile threshold. You can find marble and granite thresholds, but not in that length, unless you have them specially fabricated. The oak sounds good.

Thanks John, After looking around this weekend (in vein) for some sort of threshold material, the oak strip does sound better.
