I know it's hot outside, but I think something is wrong. My AC has pretty much run all day the last three days. At time the temp outside has run in the triple digits here in Oklahoma. However, today it's about 91 outside and the AC has run all day again keeping the house at 78 degrees. I had the AC guy come out and he said everything was working fine and suggested I put in an attic fan to pipe out the hot air. I would almost go down that route however, it's much coller today that the last week and it does the same thing.

I'm ready to find another AC guy, how is a good way to tell if I found one worth a hoot or not? I have one room that's hot, others that are cold and some that are just right. Do I need to have someone come re-design the duct work?

So does the room ever reach the temperature you set the thermostat at.

When a system is running at all time w/ temps over design and is able to keep temp in the home is a right sized system.

If your system can't keep temp, make sure the filter are clean, and blower has a good air flow...

No, it never gets to the temp I have set. Worked great last year.

Yeah, changed those. But it had not been that long since I changed them the last time.

How many sq ft is the home? How many ton is the system? Age of the home?

It has been a hotter than normal summer this year.

re-design the duct work would help with getting air to rooms that need more air . as far as runing all day i would get a meat temp gage and put it in vent and see what the temp reads comeing into house, and then do same out side on unit were the hot air comes out. if temp between the two are at least 20 degrees your getting the best it can give . then that would mean is your unit is too small

I think what Lenny meant is to take a temp reading at the supply and a temp reading at the return.

The best way to get a good tech is to ask your friends and neighbors who they use and also using authorized dealers of brand named equipment will normally yield you a good tech.

One thing that may help is to give the condensor a good cleaning outside. You'll want to shut off the power outside, remove the top "be careful with the fan wires" so that you can get a hose inside. Wet the coil down then spray it good with some 409, Simple Green or something simular. Let that soak for maybe 10 minutes then rinse it out good flushing it from the inside out.
