My husband and I are remodeling a house at the beach, and plan to tile the first floor. The front door opens onto a small, raised foyer that leads into the living room. The foyer is about 5' x 4.5'. I would like to accent the entry with a nautilus shell design, and have drawn a plan that will fit in the foyer area. My question regards placement of the shell design: should the design be laid such that the shell spirals inward towards the living room (the large, open end of the shell would face the living room), or outward, facing the front door?
Thanks for all your help! :)

I would think if it where to be a shell, you'd want it to lead to the room and open up at the door. Since you enter that direction, you enter the shell and lead into the home. I'd prefer it to open at the door and end in the room, out of my preference of course.
I also notice you're from South Carolina too, Myrtle Beach?

Thanks for your thoughts! That's how I originally drew the design, but then I got to thinking that maybe the wide end of the shell should point towards the living room to "point the way" into the house. Obviously, I'm not a designer.

I see you're point, too. It just seems more, welcomming, for lack of a better word. Mainly, becuase creatures enter on the small area of a shell, and crawl into thier home in the bigger part.. Weird analogy, same principal. (I think)
