What are the pros and cons to installing a filter to the refrigerant line?
I was told that on a new install, a filter is not needed, but if a component is being changed, it is a good idea to add the filter.
Any thoughts/comments/feedback.
Thanks in advance.

Probably just a misunderstanding. All systems should have a filter drier for the liquid line, some condensing units when new have one factory installed so no you would not add a extra one on a new unit install if the factory has already put one on. Anytime a systems internal sealed system is opened up for service the filter drier should be changed out. Lots of info on filters at the Sporlan site you can do a search and read to your hearts content.
