OK, so in the northeast it's been like 162 degrees every day, so...

I installed central air in my house last July. (One of those forced air deals, where they fish the flexible ducts through walls).

Nice and cool.

This year, it has run almost nonstop since Memorial Day... And the house has yet to get below 75.

It ran all night last night and got down to 78. The outside air was 79.

I know I should only expect about a 25 degree drop, right? So when it's 100, it should be able to get to around 75.

And, I went to the max in my sizing options last year. And last year it was routinely 73, 74, 75 in the house at night.

So... Is there something *I* can check myself to make sure everything is working correctly? The installer thinks I'm crazy, but I will push it if I have to.

But I'd like to exhaust all possibilities first.

Thanks!

(Everything LOOKS fine. No frozen coils, etc.)

If it worked fine last year, and the mechanicals look OK, then maybe it is low on charge. Have them come and take a look.

If it's 79º outside and your house only gets to 78º then there may be a problem.

With the unit running take a temprature reading of the return air and the supply air and post the results. Also with it running go outside and feel the 2 copper lines the fatty and skinny and post results. Check all your ductwork for a section that may have came off under your house or in the attic.

Hate to say it but if this is one of the space pack or so called jet packs set ups. We just take them out and put in a real cooling set up. For now the big copper line to the outdoor unit should be cold and wet. For temp check at the coil inside 18o to 20o drop over the coil at the coil is good.
