I want to install a ceramic countertop to my existing countertop, but have found that the tile will scratch. I have found a two part product that is mixed and poured over the surface for bars, but am afraid it will spread to the other part of the counter and harden. I have thought about polyeuthane on the tile, but am not sure it will adhere to the tile. I might just place a sheet of plexiglass on the tiles to prevent scratching. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has attemted this FEAT.

Hi Cameron;
I have never personally done anything like what you are suggesting. I also haven't seen too many glazed tiles that scratch under normal use on a coutertop. If it were natural like a soft marble possibly? The stuff for bars is an epoxy and it takes a little getting used to to make it flow where you want it.(A friend used to do wood cypress clocks)I really don't know how to help you on this one!
Maybe John will be along and can help out?
Sorry but, Good Luck

I don't personally like tile countertops, because you have to be careful of them. We are not careful at all around my house. We "use" our countertops.

But if you do it, you must choose a tile that won't scratch. Unglazed porcelains are about the only thing I know that fits the bill. Everything else "scratches."

As far as putting something over the tiles? Nah.
