Hi, all. I was hoping someone could help me out. This past weekend my brother and I installed a new Goodman 2.5 ton unit and evap coil in my home. The previous unit died and we replaced the lines, etc. Yesterday by brother had one of the techs he works with come over to braze the joints, and evac the system. The tech did a good job brazing the lines and evac the system, no leaks. The line set is around 25' and after reading Goodman spec sheet it said that the condensor comes with freon for up to 15' of line. Anyway, the tech forgot his manifold gauges at work so he said he would return tomorrow to fine tune the system. In the meantime it seems to be working (beats an evap cooler in 115 degree, 60 % humidity  ). After reading the Goodman spec sheet I am not too sure that this unit should be checked by pressure alone. I did not fully understand the instructions for temp checking. I am also concerned that the tech may not know fully how to do this as he does commercial units only. Anyway, I changed the piston on the evap coils (not sure if it has an expansion valve or fixed orifice) liquid line, per the installation manual. I'm leaning to my evap coil being fixed (maybe someone can confirm this). Could someone, in laymans terms, explain how to check for correct coolant level in the goodman system I have? That way I can share this info with him in case he seems to be using the pressure method only? Thanks again!
