First I want to say I am VERY new at this, so I may not know correct terms for things. Please bear with me. :)
We are in the process of finishing our basement. When we bought the home (a townhome, row style, with neighbors on both side), the basement bathroom was roughed in. We built a wall that backs up to the laundry area and the toilet and sink will be on that side. The opposite wall, which is up against a neighbors side, is the one I am having difficulty figuring out. The top half of the wall has studs and insulation. The bottom is concrete. For our other concrete walls, we built walls to hang the sheetrock on. But, in this area, that is not an option. The opening for the shower is only 32 inches wide and if we built a wall, it would end up in front of the shower opening. Moving the shower area over is not an option.
What are our options for hanging the sheetrock onto the concrete?
I read back through 18 pages of posts hoping to find my answer, but didn't have any luck. I found info on furring strips, but also read that those would take up space (in front of the shower, in our case).
Thank you so much in advance!!

Welcome to the forum
I used to work in fla where concrete block houses are the norm. They always furred the walls out with 1x's to attach the drywall to. If I understand your post correctly the block wall is common with the neighbors and exterior water seepage would not be an issue. Otherwise I would not recomend drilling or nailing into the block. Furring the wall out with PT 1x3 plus drywall would take up 1 1/4"
Are you using a prefab shower? If so you can install it with out the wall and then add wall in front of shower. If the shower is tiled you can install wonder board directly to the block and tile over it.

Thanks for your help!
I'm not sure what a 'prefab' shower is. Here is a link to something like what we got (our base is 32 X 32).
http://artistcraft.com/bases_walls/single_threshold/288
The "C" wall (on the left) is where the 1/2 studded, 1/2 concrete wall is. So if we have to go out at all, it is going to end up in front of the base and in front of the "C" wall.
Do we have any other options???
Thanks again for the help!!

A prefab shower is one where the floor and walls are all one piece ready to set in place. How thick is the 'c' wall? Didn't see that info anywhere. I don't know if it would even stick out past drywall if you could mount it straight to the block. It looks like the only 2 options are [your positive you can't move the shower?] to either paint or tile the block wall.
