Crackling home phone line

My landline has a constant background "crackle" noise, during the dialtone and during the entire phone call.

Anyone have an idea about how to fix this? Or should I just ring up the phone company?

The people I'm talking to can't hear the crackle, just me. It is not the phone, as my corded and cordless phones all do it.

you need to attach a phone at the NID, disconnect the inside wire if the static is still there call the telco if not its inside and your problem
