I am finishing the installation of drywall in the ceiling of a new basement bath. Everything was going smoothly until the last piece. The edge of the last piece hangs 1/4" below the neighboring side piece. I don't understand why because they are both screwed to the same ceiling joist. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

Does 1 piece have the factory beveled edge and the other not? A wide finished joint should hide it.

Yes, the edge that's tight against the joist is the factory edge and the edge that's 1/4" lower is a cut edge. Ugh! I guess I should have planned to have the cut edge against the wall. That's a lot of feathering - won't the ceiling look wavy?

It would have been better to have the cut edge against the wall. If you do a good enough job of finishing it won't be noticable. The more light and angle of vision the better the finishing will need to be. Since baths aren't usually all that long, you should be able to finish it ok. Using a satin paint versus semi-gloss will also help [if no shower you can use flat paint]

Thanks for your advice. I decided that it's worth the price of another piece of greenboard to do it right. This time I made sure the cut end was toward the wall and now it looks great! Thanks again for solving the mystery and giving me options to fix my problem! :D
