I have a 7 year old 2 unit central a/c unit in my house. The 2nd floor cools fine however the first floor will run all day and never get above 77degrees.
My problem is that my return vents are on the 2nd floor. I have one big return for both floors on my 2nd floor. Is there a way to run a return vent(s) to my 1st floor inside the wall. Similar to the way they run the other vents. My a/c blower unit is in the attic.
There is no other way to get a return from my 2nd fl to my 1st fl except inside the wall. Each floor is about 1200 sf. how large of a return(s) would I need.
Any ideas will be welcome. Thanks.

If you have 2 central units and 1 is in the attic would I be correct in saying the 1st floor airhandler is on the 1st floor or in the basement? Or do you just have 1 unit that does the entire home and its airhandler is in the attic?
