or not ?
I noticed the cheap flat white paint on the tile can get dirty very fast.
So before installing, I was going to apply a pure acrylic finish.
The ceiling is being installed in a basement bathroom with high potential for mold, dampness.

Will this painting affect the sound dampening characteristics of the tile ?

Any other problems to consider ?

Use a satin latex enamel. It is less likely to show fingerprints from installation and does a better job of repelling moisture than flat will. It will probably make the panels less sound absorbent - but I doubt you will notice.

and I'll use a mini roller with stiff foam to avoid penetrating too much...that should help.

If you don't apply enough paint for even coverage it may look splotchy.

Does it look OK, if you do a good job painting it? I want to paint the staple up ceiling tile which has been in place at least 30 years. I was thinking of using a roller, it would not be feasible to spray paint it. My husband wants to remove and replace, but after 4 months solid of building a bathroom, I just don't think it is worth the effort.

Mostly I'm concerned that it will improve the look of the rec. room.

Painting the ciling tiles will certainly brighten them up. It may take 2 coats if they are especially dingy. If there are any water stains be sure to prime them will a stain blocker. A 3/4" [or bigger] nap should apply the paint fine.
