I have a magic chef dryer, about 6 years old. Bout a week ago it stopped heating, but still ran. I cleaned about a grocery bag full of lint out of it, still no heat. Then I came across the heating element, and the coil was broken. I didn't have $50 right away for a new one, so I twisted the broken coil back together to suffice till next week. It worked just fine. Well, after a weeks worth of laundry, it stopped working alltogether in the middle of a load. The fuse box was fine, the power cord was fine, when I moved the dryer out, there was a small puddle of water, when I took out the clothes out, they smelled kind of smoky. My metal vent runs straight up the wall about 3 feet and outside. I have 220v going to my dryer.
So three questions....Why will it not turn on? Why was there a puddle of water? Why were the clothes smoky?

1. thermal fuse blew (DRYER OVER HEATED AND/OR SHORTED by the THE ELEMENT)

2. vent still not open enough condensation building up (CHECK OUTSIDE FLAP OPENING ALL THE WAY)

3. LINT SMOLDERING AND/OR BURNING.. ELEMENT SHORTED TO HOUSING AND ARC'ING...
