We never use our formal dining room. We always use our open plan kitchen and living area when we have guests.
Our formal living room was transformed into a library/home office. What would be wrong with transforming our formal dining room for more practical uses, including piano, treadmill, and air hockey?
Any suggestions for making this a tasteful transformation?

nothing would be wrong with it. but it depends on how open & visible this room is from the other rooms. i personally wouldn't want to see a treadmill or air hockey table from my kitchen or living area. that's why game rooms are usually in the basement or somewhere separate from the main living areas. but if you don't mind, then go for it. you could maybe put up an attractive screen of your choice in a strategic spot to block the view. or install french doors that you could curtain.
