We have been away from our house for about a month. When we turn on the hot water in any faucet, we get a yellowish colored water until we let it run for about 30-45 minutes. This has happened to us twice in the last 90 days. The cold water is also yellowish but that disappears after 5 minutes. Do you think our water heater is about to give out? We've had the current water heater for 8 years and it has a 10 year warranty for a replacement unit if it fails, we still have to pay for installation.

Water heaters rarely give off rust due to their glass lining. Since you have it in your cold water most likely your rusty water is coming from your pipes or pressure regulator or other connectors being used.
