Roof replacement-gaps in old roof

Recent wind driven rain resulted in a new roof being needed. We found that there is no decking... instead we have 1x7's with about 1/2 inch gap in between each. Do we do anything to fill this gap before we start laying new felt.

you could put a 3/8 plywood over it to prevent nail to be set in the cracks

Another vote for plywood over the current decking. That 1/2 gap is too much.
