Can anyone tell me what they think of Ducane (Lennox) central airs units.
I'm looking to install a 4 ton 12 seer unit at a cost of $2,600.00 to replace a current uniit (Lux Air builder special).
My alternative could be Trane 4 ton 12 Seer for $3,200.
Both units have identical warrantees. My expected time in the house is 5 - 7 years.
What makes Trane worth $600.00 more ???
I have a useless opinion but they are about the same, with Rheem being the better of the 3. But I think you are splitting hairs about which brand is better as long as it is installed properly.

$600.00 difference is a lot of hairs. Thats why I'm trying to determine what the $600.00 buys besides a name plaque.

The Trane units have a nicer finish and a sturdier cabinet than Ducane.
I suspect, but do not know for sure, that the technical specifications for the Trane may be a little better than the Ducane. Seems to be more coil area in the Trane product.
Trane might be a fuzz quieter, but the Ducanes are also quiet units.
Ducane uses fewer proprietary parts.
At your size, Ducane probably uses a 3/4 lineset and Trane a 7/8.
Real estate agents tell me that the only thing that matters at sale time is if the damn thing works. Unless it is a special green or environmental home, brand matters not.
Either unit, properly sized and installed, will work fine.
