View Full Version : Energizing 2nd phone line - TNI not a NID???

Hi - I'm in the process of trying to get a 2nd line that's coming in to my house switched to a different phone jack (it was a dial-up modem line, want to make it a 2nd voice line for the kids upstairs). The grey Telco box outside does not have the (newer?) NID setup, it appears to have these rectangular grey things that look like small circuit breakers, with the wire pairs coming down from the Telco going into them. It looks like I could snap them out with a screwdriver or something, but I didn't want to go in and start wrecking stuff until I almost knew what I was doing.

Three of the four grey things have a wire-pair going into them. The boxes are labeled with the phone numbers they carry.

Any advice, short of the use of C4??? LOL

simplist is to take the jack off where the modem was ,look at the wire pairs connected to it then duplicate it where you now want the line

Have the phone company install a network interface for you. They will do so at no charge, especially when you tell them that you don't understand how to make the connections in their existing box.

They don't want you messing with that box, and they will install a NID for you.

Thanks for the replies - I guess I'll call our friends at Verizon tomorrow and ask if they can hear me now..

Or post a picture of your current interface?
