I have recently picked up a V4/ Hydro electric Gearbox of dubious parentage( we don't know wot size it is, no chassis plate etc.) It has twin points , and is set up on a car coil system, however when running if I pull the leads off 1 and 3 and hold them at the edge of the rubber caps the said cylinders run properly, any suggestions? (I'm on my second dizzy cap, and running out of patience....)

Johnson manual for 1956 - 1970 for 1.5 hp to 40 hp indicates all plug gaps at .030 in and all point gaps at .020 in.
Probably same for your larger engine.
You might try this site for good diagnostic info on your Johnson You should indicate the hp.
