Do I need to replace my Defrost Temperature Thermostat Sensor?

I need to replace my defrost control circuit board on my heat pump and they also want to replace my Defrost Temperature Thermostat Sensor. They don't know if it is bad but they recommend it. Can it be tested? If so, how?
