Hi, some how i managed to bend the skeg on my inboard/outboard drive. Is there some way to straighten it with out breaking it? And does the bend cause any kind of a problem, as far as steering etc? Thank You. Don Reed e-mail donnora43@yahoo.com

Whether you can straighten it without breaking depends on how badly it is bent. Many bends can be straightened using two plastic dead blow hammers, one to support the opposite side of where you strike with the other. Take your time and don't try to do it in one or two whacks. If that doesn't work you can take the lower gear case off and rest one side against a piece of wood and pound with the dead blow against it. If it is too bent for either of these methods, or if it breaks, worst case you have to have a new skeg welded on. Depending on your location that can run from $100 and up.
As to whether that affects steering that again depends on amount of bend. Technically the answer is yes regardless, just if you can notice the change is the question.
