Hi all. I am new here and need opinions. I am redecorating my home for sale. I have remolded the kitchen in a Spanish-type style in keeping with the area.
I put new cabinets in the kitchen and pantry in "natural hickory". I put in a copper slate backsplash along the entire kitchen wall. The counter tops are very dark with splashes of browns/golds/ blacks and terra cotta. The floor is terra cotta tile. The appliances are black.
The look is very dramatic. Not necessarily what I was shooting for but it is what I got.
My problem is that I am not sure what color to paint the walls. I don't want to make the room dark but light colors look tacky against all this deep rich color.
They say to go light for resale but I am afraid it's to late for that.
I feel like if I go tans or pale yellows it will wash out the cabinets.
I don't want to make the room dark but light colors look tacky .
any suggestions would be appreciated?

it's hard to talk about colors when you can't see them, but what about a richer gold color? golds usually look great with most gold-based woods, and it would work really well with your terra cotta floor.

or something similar to the copper slate backsplash (btw, what color IS that? copper color or slate color?)

Hi Annette, thanks for your reply. I was toying with the idea of a gold color. I am going to get a sample this weekend and see how it looks.
The copper slate is amazing. It is so many muted shades of copper with hues of greens and rusts and almost every color of the rainbow all blended into stone but with a natural metallic. It is hard to describe. My neighbor said it looks like a Spanish castle. the colors are rich and dark but have kind of a natural shine to them. I can post a picture of it someplace. when we saw how it looked we went back to the store and bought it all.
We are going to put a high gloss sealer on it to give it a wet look and all the hidden colors come out. We just love it.
thanks again
