View Full Version : A/C outside & blower working, vents = no flow

My A/C unit has been working fine-- but used ALOT the past few days (heatwave on east coast). When I came home from the store tonight, my wife noticed there was no air coming from the vents. I checked outside, and the fan is blowing, and no visible signs of a problem. I removed the cover inside, and the blower was turning and blowing alot of air (it seemed a bit unusual for it to be blowing INSIDE the housing-- meaning it wasn't getting to the vents, maybe?) I checked the ductwork under the house-- didn't see any place where there was any damage. What could be causing this? If I don't fix it soon my wife is going to drive me NUTS!

frozen evap coil. shut off for a few hours. change filter. if no improvement call for service.
JUST A GUESS HERE Common cause is the shelves at your local home supply store fully stocked with highly restrictive plaeted type filters. Now get up from the computer go directly to your return air filter grille pull out the restrictive filter you have installed proceed directly to the trash can and stomp it down to the bottom. Now swear to never buy one of these again and install a nice blue fibergalss free flowing filter and be cool man. A bit dramatic but I have found many systems to be utilizing a undersized return and the addition of the retrictive filter and some real extreme cooling conditions will send the system into the danger zone.

AMEN I can't tell you how many service calls I go on simply because of these filters.

Depending on how old your inside unit is it could be a dirty blower motor wheel also causing you poor air flow.

At this point I would say not only a dirty filter but possibly a dirty evap. coil.
Time for a good cleaning.
