View Full Version : Tile floor problem

My 1 1/2 year old tile floor (professionally installed) is falling apart. The grout is cracking and coming out all over the floor, including non-traffic areas. The contractor is waffling on responsibility, and I'm looking for ideas on the cause --my argument is that it was installed improperly. Any ideas?

TDT:

What you should do is open the yellow pages to "Tiling Contractors" and see if any of the larger tiling contractors advertize that they are members in a tiling contractors association in your area. Find out who the president of that association is, phone him up and explain the situation to him. He'll not only be able to give you an honest opinion on what happened to your floor, he'll also be in the best position to advise you on what you do to be fair with your contractor whilst still getting the floor problems corrected.

Maybe arrange to meet that guy in a coffee shop, buy him a coffee and show him some pictures.

As the head of the tiling contractor's association, he'll probably feel some responsibility to set the situation straight IF he honestly believes it was a poor installation.
