I have a heat pump thermostat that is functioning properly but is extremely hot to the touch. Upon removing the thermostat from the wall, all the wires leading to (inside the wall) the thermostat are also extremely hot. My question is; should I replace the thermostat or is it possibly the transformer not functioning properly?

I would start by checking voltages & amp draw. It sounds like something is drawing a lot more amps than it should.

is this a pro-stat brand thermostat?
