What are the reasons/guidelines for using a 2.5 ton condenser with a 3 ton evap coil? To increase moisture removal was explained. Are there pros and cons to this?

I can't remember if a larger or smaller evap coil removes more latent heat (humidity). Changing coil size is a trade off in that if you remove more latent heat, you remove less sensible heat (measurable temperature). Not sure about current practice, but in the past, manufacturers would specify a 1/2 ton larger evap coil than the condenser & gain some SEER rating. In general higher SEER equipment does not do as good of a job at dehumidifing as lower SEER units, with all else being equal. That being said, I would have to believe a larger coil would do a better job of dropping temperature but not as well at humidity removal. Of course, I could have it bass akwards.
